I've poured my heart and creativity into each piece of my portfolio, crafting visual stories that capture both emotion and imagination. I invite you to explore the six items below to see my fully functional elearning modules that showcase how I translate complex concepts into compelling visuals that resonate and inspire.
My Instructional Design Method
As an instructional designer, my approach to a client project is systematic and collaborative. Initially, I engage in comprehensive interactions with the client to establish a trusting partnership. Understanding their goals, expectations, and constraints is my priority. During these discussions, I focus on asking insightful questions that help clarify the scope and purpose of the training project.
To determine the audience's needs, I conduct a detailed learner analysis. This involves gathering data through surveys, interviews, and reviewing existing documentation. I aim to grasp their current knowledge level, learning preferences, and any potential barriers they might face. Understanding the audience's demographics, experience, and motivation assists me in tailoring the training effectively.
Defining the problem through analysis is a critical step. I examine the gap between the current state and the desired competencies. This includes identifying what learners need to know, their tasks, and the behaviors to be changed. I utilize a variety of tools, like job-task analysis and focus groups, to gather relevant information and define a clear problem statement.
In developing a solution, I integrate Gagne's 9 levels of instruction and Knowles' Andragogy principles. I begin by capturing learner attention and inform them of the objectives. Next, I stimulate recall of prior learning to bridge new information. Throughout the training, I present the content systematically, foster interaction for learning guidance, and involve learners actively to practice and reinforce learning. Feedback is continuous, allowing for improvement and reflection. To enhance retention and transfer, I ensure opportunities for applying skills in real-world scenarios.
Given that adult learners are self-directed, I incorporate Knowles' andragogy principles, allowing learners to leverage their experiences in the training. I ensure problem-centered and applicable learning experiences that are aligned with their goals, fostering intrinsic motivation to engage in the training.
Measuring the return on investment (ROI) of the training is essential. I employ Kirkpatrick's Levels of Evaluation to track the effectiveness, starting from learner reaction and learning assessments to observing behavioral change and measuring organizational impact.
Data is gathered through assessments, surveys, performance analytics, and feedback loops. Analyzing this data enables me to quantify improvements in performance and efficiencies, thus calculating the ROI in terms of increased productivity, quality improvements, or cost savings.
Throughout the project, maintaining open communication with the client and iterating on feedback ensures the training remains relevant and effective, ultimately leading to successful outcomes that meet both learner and organizational needs.
